10 things i hate about the lame diaries

1. Welcome to the show where vampires are so sweet, so humble and so kind that you wish you could reward them with a citizen’s award. They not only drink animal blood but also from packets so that real people wouldn’t have to be killed.

2. They are rich without jobs. They have iphones, blackberry’s and the latest designer wear and you wonder why you’re not a vampire.

3. They have killed and sucked the life out of countless citizens yet the cops never seem to find them. There is no FBI or CIA in the show to actually solve the mystery.

4. There are high school kids who are never seen in school except for parties and farewells, infact that’s the only time when the school building is ever used

5. These kids have nothing to do except to find where werewolves are and who is the mean/vampire. They never have to study or even open a book.

6. Teachers are just as cool as these students and help them out. They have access to libraries and books that apparently have the history of vampires, Not only that but spells and deep secrets too.

7. People die, disappear and vanish into thin air yet no one seems to notice. As long as there’s a party and free booze, WHO CARES!

8. The blood bank is open to all. Anyone can just come in, take as many packets and store them at home. Again, no one notices this absence.

9. Witches can do almost anything. From resurrection to destruction, these witches have a spell for everything.

10. The show has a high rating!

learning to be truly happy

Art therapy session one

You can learn a lot about a child’s psyche and mental state by the way they paint their self portrait. Their self perception is often reflected by their vivid brush strokes and placement of features. This however does not mean that children who paint terribly are immature or abnormal, no absolutely not. But children who include more details in their painting, demonstrate a higher level of maturity, understanding and self awareness.

Our school has devised a new system of helping children with different kinds of disabilities. Every teacher must take out at least two periods per week to spend quality time with these them. Therefore, I spend time with three girls every Thursday in the last two periods and try my best to do Art therapy with them.

Last week, after distributing paper and paint, I explained their assignment to them. I told them how they had to draw their own self portrait and drew a small one myself for a better understanding. As they started drawing, I started scribbling bits about their behaviour, thoughts because sometimes it’s easier to identify their psychological disorder by doing so. The image they draw is always distorted and they see the world through lost eyes hence their discernment is the same.

Its rather sad to observe these students who are constantly seeking approval. Their confidence has been brutally shattered and that reflects in their personality. They make sad and small eyes because they themselves are miserable. They are often bullied and ridiculed by peers.

So every Thursday, I am extremely thankful to God. Rest of the week I grumble, complain and whine about a failed scholarship and relationship, not so hot career and flop travel plans but come Thursday and I am a different person. When I see these girls, all I think about is how lucky I am to be healthy, normal and self aware. It is truly a gift and a highly precious one. Sometimes you need one, just that one thing to make you feel alive and happy again.

you are a loser... you don't have an A*

What is it about grades and A’s and A*’s that make us forget what the world is about. What happened to integrity, knowledge and learning to gain something than to score full marks. When we were in school, we weren’t just concerned about getting straight A’s or into universities abroad. We didn’t take tuitions for each and every subject. We were happy with four or six A’s because we knew it was all our effort. We didn’t run after god knows whom after school or mention expensive tutors to silence our teachers. We concentrated in classes so we wouldn’t have to take additional help in the first place. But o-levels now has become a joke. To score anything below an A* is like getting a D. Children are becoming more and more grade conscious and less grateful. Tears spring in their eyes if a B is found on result day. Hysteria strikes if they don’t make it to a college where their friends are. It is unbelievable.

When I first joined school, I always found these children to be very mature and sensible than our generation. But with time I realized why this was happening. The parents put an implausible amount of pressure to do well in their exams. Future relationships are dependant upon this factor. Today its all about who is going to Nixor and Lyceum. Who will make the cut and who will stay behind.

I try to reason with these kids, tell them how grades are not that important. An A does not ensure a better life and hardly a successful one. If that were the case then Bill Gates wouldn’t be so rich today. But maybe it’s the world that we live that has set such high standards, which are impossible to achieve by everyone.

Iam writing this because I am angry. Iam not only angry at these children but also at the system that corrupts their minds. It’s all about owning apple products, getting into a university abroad and thus being cool. Those who stay behind are ultimately considered losers and if you don’t have a business degree, you are nothing. Where is this coming from? Who is brain washing these children to think in this disgusting way? Certainly not the teachers.

More often than not, girls approach to tell me that they want to study Art but their parents think they cannot make a career out of it. And more often than not I roll my eyes at their ignorance and generalization. At the parent teacher meetings, fathers are just interested in knowing whether their sons can make money out this subject, if not it’s a waste of time. We often ignore such fathers but can’t help think about their questions. Why does a child have to make a career out of every subject he studies, cant he simply take it because he enjoys it. After all, people do study philosophy and math together knowing there isn’t much they can do other than teach. But isn’t that the most integral thing in the end? To know that your child is happy at what hes studying.

In the end, it’s only about making bucks and big ones. You are liked because you are rich not because you are humble, a wonderful human being or amazingly talented. You are tolerated and appreciated because your wallet is thicker than the much greater person sitting next to you.
